Our Story
“In a world filled with cheaply built items that don’t last, and inevitably end up in land fills, we strive to produce the highest level of quality and sustainability.”
-Nate Michaud
This company was ultimately created by necessity. After I graduated high school in northern Maine, I decided to experience a completely different culture and environment. Moving to the island of Maui was one of the best decisions I made. It was there, during difficult times when this company/dream was born.
I had spent my work career in Hawaii as a deckhand on various vessels. Being that Hawaii is a tourist based economy, once Covid-19 spread throughout the world, and everything shut down, so did all of our incomes. However, my very expensive rent payments did not stop. I had no choice but to become a freelancer and that forced me to search within myself for my passion.
My inspiration to begin woodworking started at a very young age. I will never forget watching my father build a simple box out of ply wood for storage. Since then, I have always been fascinated by people’s ability to build something useful with simple tools and materials. It was ultimately my wife’s(girlfriend at the time)late grandfather that gave me the inspiration. He was a simple, hardworking machine operator who started building Adirondack chairs in his retirement. His ability to learn a completely new skill at an old age will always be a great source of inspiration.
I had very cheap old tools, no money, but I had ambition, and time. I began pulling apart pallets by hand and using them to build my own Adirondack style chairs. Luckily those sold very well, and I was able to pay rent. I quickly realized I had never been so fulfilled. Due to noise complaints from the neighbors, I was forced to stop, but it was too late for me to stop. My passion for woodworking had completely taken over. So I ran an extension cord into the woods behind the house and continued my dream. I built several nice pieces of furniture back there in the elements. I started investing into my dream as soon as I could by purchasing local slabs of wood. It was very nice not having to pull pallets apart anymore.
My wife and I decided to settle closer to our family, so we returned to Maine. Luckily my passion and ambition followed. I have no interest in building trendy items. My interest and goal is to build the highest quality furniture possible. My hope is for all my pieces to out live me and become my legacy. Now my fulfillment comes from the reaction of my customers. There is no better feeling than making someone emotional through my work. I love that my repeat customers become close friends, and I hope to be building heirloom furniture for the rest of my life.
